Last year was not a good Thanksgiving. This year's was much better. Mom's health was good and it was quite the enjoyable day. But I do have 1 funny story to tell. The day after Thanksgiving my daughter, Blythe, was at work and called to ask if I had seen her cell phone. She have me some directions where I might find it and I proceeded to look in the suggested spots. It wasn't in any of these areas so I decided the smart thing to do was simply give the phone a call. Of course, if it was off or the battery went dead, it wouldn't help, but it sure didn't hurt to try.
On my first try, I didn't hear it, but decided to move around the house since I might not have been in the right room. When I got closer to the kitchen I started to hear a very faint ring, but I still couldn't tell where it was coming from. I tried again... it seemed to be coming over toward the window and sink. I moved closer and I it was definitely coming from that direction. When I got to the sink I could hear it coming from the cupboard below. When I opened the door to the cupboard it was definitely coming from there. And, from the garbage! She had somehow dropped her phone in the garbage! Let's just say it wasn't much fun retrieving it.
That is my Thanksgiving story

Thanksgiving Thoughts...
This Thanksgiving for us was not a "normal" Thanksgiving. Our family usually gathers at a family member's house and we share a traditional Thanksgiving complete with the turkey-stuffing and pumpkin pie meal. Makes me hungry just thinking about it! This year things were different.
My Mother became ill the Tuesday of conferences and had to go to the emergency room. She was eventually admitted to the hospital. Since this is a very public blog, I will respect her privacy and keep details to myself. I will just say she is still in the hospital and recovering. At the time of this writing, she is still in the hospital. I hope she will be strong enough to come home soon.
I was wanting to use Thanksgiving as an opportunity to write something in your blog. I have to have a theme and I still want you to do so. Anything you write about any Thanksgiving experience will suffice. But, this experience gives me the opportunity to show how many people use blogs to keep people they know updated about personal information such as a loved one's physical condition during a hospital stay. Rather than having to make dozens of phone calls or even emails, people will take advantage of a blog by putting the information online and sending just one mass email with the link to the blog. They can even make the blog private just allowing only people they invite to read it. It just depends on the situation.
So, this is my "Thanksgiving story". Just a quick note about my Mom and some information about how a blog can be used as a tool to simplify your life. Remember... your post for today can be anything about any Thanksgiving you want. You can even make up one for fun!

My Halloween Story
This will be a quick story...
My Halloween story isn't exactly about Halloween... but it is related. Last Wednesday (10/14) I was visiting my parents at their house with my dog Charlie. The link to Halloween is simply that they had 2 rather large bowls of candy out; not uncommon for this time of year.
As I was visiting with my Mom in the living room, Charlie ran around the house as she always does and I didn't give it much thought until my Dad called me the next day at school. I didn't take the call, but the message said:
"Is your dog OK? Dad"
I didn't have any idea what that meant until I called him back. Dad informed me that Charlie had consumed one rather large bowl of gummie bears and a second bowl of candy that were wrapped in paper. No signs of any paper wrappings anywhere!!!!
I guess puppies have a strong constitution because I haven't seen any ill effects from Charlie at all and also... no signs of paper candy wrappers either. I'll spare you the details!

My Second Post
This post is supposed to be a comment about something you are interested in. Maybe you want to comment about your favorite musician or, you are upset about how the media treats your favorite actor or actress or, maybe you would like to comment on your favorite sports team. Anything goes. Just remember... it goes on the web for all to see. Keep all your comments appropriate because we will be sharing our blogs with others. I will be linking to them from my website
I'll start...
I'm excited about playing soccer for my soccer team. I play on an over 30's soccer team in a Portland league. I'm really not very good, but I still love the competition. I find it very challenging to play with men 20 years younger than me and still try to compete successfully. It also keeps me young!
I'm excited to play because we have a very good team. We have picked up several good players (Kevin Plechl is one of them... you might know who he is!!) and we have a great time playing together. We are 3-0 this year and have defeated our opponents by a combined score of 16-1. A couple games were close for a while, but in the second half, our team wears out our opponent and the "flood gates" open and a scoring barrage takes place.
I guess those are my thoughts for the day. What are you excited about or want to vent about?? Just make sure it is appropriate.

My first post
My dog Charlie

Please find an image and upload it. Write a short few paragraphs about your image.
For my example, this is my dog Charlie! We got her in late April and she was quite small. She is over 5 months old now, and she is quite BIG! And, she has lots and lots of energy. She is a great dog and I am so happy to have her.
If any of you have Ms. Burleson for a teacher, Charlie's mother is her dog Ariel. She is an absolutely great dog too and if Charlie has many of her traits when she grows up, I'll be very happy.
Your job will be to do what I have done here. Please try to match some of the formatting. The goal is to play with different fonts, colors, text size etc. Also, here is a link to a dog training site. I linked to it because it might help me to teach my new dog some new tricks. I don't know if the site is any good, I just wanted to have a link on this page so you would do the same in "your first post".
Happy blogging,
